RwandaOccupational Therapy Association

RWOTA is committed to promoting excellence in occupational therapy education and lifelong learning across Rwanda. We support the development and delivery of high-quality training through workshops, seminars, webinars, continuing professional development (CPD) and so forth. Our focus includes equipping practitioners with evidence-based practice, advancing clinical reasoning, and enhancing professional competence. We mentor students and strengthen university partnerships to support high-quality occupational therapy education through enhancing academic growth and clinical competence. By building local capacity and supporting innovation in teaching and practice, we ensure that occupational therapists are empowered to meet evolving occupational needs of individuals and communities across Rwanda.

RWOTA actively promotes occupational therapy services in Rwanda through impactful community outreach initiatives. Guided by its mission to ensure quality occupational therapy for all, we extend services to under-resourced communities, offering functional assessments and screenings, education, capacity building and advocacy. These efforts focus on improving participation, independence, and inclusion for people of all ages and abilities. Outreach programs focus on developmental delays, physical rehabilitation, and psychosocial support. RWOTA also raises awareness of occupational therapy’s role in health and social systems, ensuring its relevance and accessibility throughout Rwanda’s diverse settings.

RWOTA provides a strong professional support system for occupational therapists and students who are qualified members. They benefit from access to continuing professional development, mentorship, access to resources, research engagement, networking opportunities and other professional development opportunities. We actively advocate for our members’ professional rights and interests. RWOTA promotes leadership, ethics, collaboration, and professional excellence where members are encouraged to serve on committees, take initiative in projects, and contribute to the growth of the profession. We are committed to empowering our members while enhancing the profession’s visibility and credibility.

Being a member of the Rwanda Occupational Therapy Association (RWOTA) offers a strong platform for professional development that aligns with the occupational therapy practice. RWOTA fosters the continuous growth of its members by promoting evidence-based practice, ethical conduct, and clinical excellence. Through workshops, seminars, and conferences, members are equipped with the latest skills and knowledge to respond to Rwanda’s unique healthcare needs. RWOTA facilitates access to academic resources, research networks, and mentorship opportunities from experienced therapists, both locally and abroad.
